Gregory Polony, Untitled (6 Sockel) (2010)

“Gregory Polony does not consider it necessary to separate appearance and reality like the wheat from the chaff in his artistic work. He allows both at the same time, which confuses and attracts. It is the hiding and at the same time revealing here and there that makes many of his works so attractive. Concrete slabs cast by hand are buried in the ground unseen, drawings make phantasies visible on paper, and soon only an inventory catalog can be seen in the exhibition, the works themselves are not shown as exhibits, but remain inaccessible as depot stock. Even if his works are not visible or tangible, the potential is still perceptible, activation is possible at any time – only momentarily frozen, in ‘solid state’. What comes along as a clever game with the expectations of the viewer, is at the same time Polony’s relentless reflection on the mechanisms of art making, on his tasks as an artist: producing, showing, storing. “Solid State” is what Polony calls his work – his ideas in a solid state. Somebody keep the temperature constant!” – Platform 11
