North Paris by Bogdan Konopka

“Through a singular and intimate vision of a country, of his country, Bogdan Konopka questions the human and universal quest for belonging to a territory and its history. 1988 Arrival in France, Bogdan Konopka is known for his work on the hidden faces of cities – Paris, Warsaw, Prague, Berlin, Zurich, Budapest, Beijing or Shanghai … – where his eyes are focused on giving us what he calls himself “their heritage of nothing”. The exhibition brings together a selection of photographs, taken for forty years, which reveal the sensitive and personal vision of a country where the real – a Poland that is transformed and gradually enters modernity – gives way to fantasy and dream. Around the portraits posed or seized on the fly, landscapes of ruins, snow or mist, ghostly cities, the photographer tries to capture the soul of places and the memory of time, to give to see the fragility of the world.”
