André Lundquist

André Lundquist. is a Danish artist who is inspired by literature and moments from his own life. He is fascinated with people and their relations with nature and the world, and how everything is connected. His paintings are made by building up several layers, and the compositions often take form in unexpected ways. He works his way around the canvas and the direction changes as he works on each layer, as he adds new motifs, making each layer weave into each other. The result is a complex surface consisting of layers of stories.

The artworks refer to a palimpsest, which in ancient Rome was a wax-covered board made of animal skins. The writing was scraped off and a new one was written. It created layers of words that wove into each other. In the same way, André Lundquist sees our being as layers of memories, lived life, relationships, experiences, dreams, grief and love. He insists that we are not alone in the world and that everything is inextricably linked.
