Coronation of the Kin

“Portrait of A Woman from CORONATION OF THE KIN ~ a portrait editorial designed to interrogate competing concepts of identity and togetherness in African cultures.

Thematically, COTK addresses the disproportionate social positioning of men and women, and strives to examine this narrative through the Mother Voice. Ever since I wrote A Man is Not A Mirror and Marriage and The Mischief of Managing, I knew I had to extend the conversation to a readily visual space—to expand it. COTK allowed me to do that. To reach into the construct of the traditional African family and its many manifestations across the continent. Read more via my artist statement on tefftheory.com released 18-8-18.”
